SAND BLASTING

SAND BLASTING

Sandblasting is a process in which sand is blasted onto steel or metal surfaces to remove rust, paint, or oil, leaving the material clean and smooth. Shot blasting works similarly, but uses tiny steel balls to clean steel pipes and tubing. Shot blasting is especially popular for creating a unique surface texture that enhances paint adhesion.

Both sandblasting and shot blasting are fast, cost-effective methods that prepare steel for further processing. These techniques ensure paint and coatings adhere better, making fabrication and finishing much simpler. Sandblasting also provides a mildly abrasive clean for new steel, leaving a smooth, flawless surface free of imperfections.

Two Types of Sandblasting Processes

Sandblasting is the process of propelling abrasive materials onto a surface using pressurized liquid or compressed gas, effectively cleaning and preparing it for further treatment. The choice of method depends on the type of surface:

  • Water-Driven Sandblasting – Ideal for brick and concrete surfaces, this method reduces surface deterioration while preparing the material for finishing.

  • Air-Driven Sandblasting – Best suited for metal surfaces, this technique prevents moisture buildup and avoids water intrusion, ensuring optimal surface quality.

Various types of abrasive media can be used in sandblasting, each selected according to the surface material and desired finish.
